The Beare Park amenities block owned by City of Sydney was re-developed in 2008. The building, with a stone ballast roof, is located in a high profile waterfront park overlooked by several high rise residential buildings and so the re-development included installation of an extensive green roof.
The extensive green roof uses a profile ranging from 100mm mounding up to 250mm to accommodate larger plants. The stone mulch was crushed recycled brick and the plants used comprised 10 species of succulents or sedums to create a very drought tolerant garden on the Sydney foreshore. The bright and varied colours of the sedum species when in flower makes this landmark look spectacular.
